Pregnancy Meditation: Sound, Voice & Connection

Duration: 15 minutes

I’m Tish—a mama, space holder, and birth & postpartum doula—and I’ve created this pregnancy meditation as a way for you to connect with your body and your baby. You’ll use the simple but powerful tool of your own voice. Sound vibration moves through the body, through the fascia, through the waters of the womb—reaching your baby and creating resonance between you both. Just as a bowl of water ripples with sound, our voices ripple through us, massaging the vagus nerve, supporting our nervous system, and reminding us of the deep connection between voice, pelvis, and birth.

This practice is about remembering that our voices are medicine. From the moment we arrive earthside with our first cry—“I’m here!”—sound has been our most primal expression. Words are spells, songs are medicine, and your voice doesn’t need to sound a certain way to be powerful. All indigenous cultures have carried sound at the heart of community. Singing, humming, or toning in pregnancy isn’t about being ‘good at singing’—it’s about reclaiming voice as healing, as truth speaking, as preparation for birth and mothering. May this meditation guide you back to the knowing that you—and your sound—are the medicine.

Voice Activation Practice

  • Begin by connecting with your inner world, then noticing your outer world, before gently returning to the breath

  • Breathe slowly in and slowly out, inviting a long exhale

  • Continue this slow breathing for a few rounds or minutes

  • When ready, add in a gentle hum on the exhale—like the buzzing of a bee—it can be loud enough that only you can hear it

  • Follow the vibration through your body, noticing where it travels and how it feels

  • After a few minutes of humming, invite simple sounds such as ahhh, huuuum, or ohm

  • Continue for as long as feels supportive

  • Close the practice whenever you are ready, carrying the resonance with you
